MPMA'S CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
Overview
To provide a formal training component to MPMA’s yearly conference, the Certification Program rewards participants who dedicate time to advancing their skills and knowledge of museum practice. This program provides a way to develop expertise and acquire new skills sets by attending a series of educational programs in one of several focus areas. Participants earn MPMA Professional Development Certificates by completing a minimum eight (8) hours of training in one focus area at the conference.
Eligibility
Conference attendees may only train in one (1) focus area per certificate. Training includes the completion of a minimum of eight (8) hours of training at MPMA’s Conference. Sessions are 75 minutes; workshops are 3 hours.
Process
Certification participants must complete a minimum eight (8) hours of training in one of six (6) recognized focus areas. These focus areas could change each year and may include the following categories:
1. CE – Community Engagement
2. DIR – Directors, Facilities, Leadership, Legal, Capitol
3. E - Exhibitions
4. CM – Collections Management/Conservation
5. ED - Education/Interpretation
6. TECH – Technology
7. MKT - Marketing / Public Relations
Participants can complete the training requirement through a combination of one (1) workshop and five (5) sessions, seven (7) sessions, or two (2) workshops and three (3) sessions. Each workshop and session must be listed on the certificate form for credit.
Session Adaptations
While most workshops and sessions are already coded for their specific focus areas, participants may request credit for a workshop or session not specifically identified for their selected area. Participants must submit the workshop/session title and a one to two (1-2) sentence justification as to why it should be accepted under their selected focus area. These alternate requests are subject to approval.
Cost to Participate
$25 for each focus section.
