Emerging Museum Professionals are EMPs!
EMP stands for Emerging Museum Professional
Emerging Museum Professionals Committee is an affinity
committee of the Mountain-Plains Museums Association
What is an emerging museum professional? It is either a student who is engaged in a museum-related course of study or a museum professional within his/her first five years of museum employment.
According to MPMA's EMP Committee, it is crucial for an EMP to become involved in professional museum organizations, find answers to the many questions they have as new museum professionals, attend training and conferences, and begin cultivating connections with other museum professionals (the latter may prove to be a career-long benefit). MPMA, as a regional museum association, provides outlets to all of the above.
MPMA considers EMPs to be special members of the museum professional community because they will be future decision-makers for the preservation of the art, culture, and history of our region.
EMPs sponsor MPMA's annual silent and live auctions at its annual conference. All proceeds go to conference scholarships. EMPs also help to photograph the conference for MPMA's social media outlets.
