The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma seeks an experienced preparator. The museum has 63,000 square feet and the strengths of the permanent collection include French Impressionism, American art, Native American art, photography, Asian art, and European graphics. Several temporary in-house and traveling exhibitions are mounted annually. The museum is beginning a new expansion in 2009 with the addition of approximately 6,000 sq. feet of exhibition space, additional storage and an education classroom. The new space, scheduled for an opening of spring, 2011, will house the Eugene B. Adkins Collection. The FJJMA will be open and fully active during the construction process, with Southwest and Native American exhibitions and programming scheduled throughout 2009.

The successful candidate will work in the museum’s preparation department as part of a team; possibly supervise interns, and contract labor while reporting to the deputy director/curator of collections; assist curators in exhibition design; prepare, install, maintain, and disassemble exhibitions and galleries; design and construct exhibition furniture and mounts for display; work closely with the registrar and curators in all areas of collection care; pack and crate art; maintain light fixtures in the galleries; oversee service personnel in secure areas of the museum; occasionally assist with setup and breakdown for events; and perform diversified duties involving planning, coordinating, and prioritizing efforts.

Requirements include substantial museum experience in installation, lighting, art handling, matting, framing and presentation; knowledge of conservation requirements for artworks; experience in constructing crates and exhibition furniture; experience operating hand and power tools; knowledge of materials appropriate for art museums; and, the ability to lift 100 lbs.

The Millicent Rogers Museum opened in 1956. Founded by Millicent Rogers’ family including the recently deceased Paul Peralta-Ramos, the Museum has become one of America's most important resources for the study of southwestern art and design. Today the museum is a public, nonprofit, educational institution, supported by its membership program and sponsors and is accredited by the American Association of Museums. The Millicent Rogers Museum Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the museum located in Taos, New Mexico and operates with a budget of approximately $900,000 annually and has an endowment of approximately 1.2M.

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Trustees, and is responsible for its leadership and will have primary responsibility and authority for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission in fund raising, program development and administration, budget planning and management; and personnel and public relations.

Museum Curator: The City of Lakewood - Lakewood, CO

The Position:  Performs collections management, educational programming, exhibit planning and implementation of 20th Century history at a municipal outdoor history museum including research, planning, implementation and evaluation. Oversees volunteers specific to these functions. Acts as a resource for related grants. Assists with visual art exhibits. Work is performed with considerable independence under the guidance of the Heritage Center Museum Administrator. Creates, promotes and implements education programs for targeted groups. Acts as liaison with schools and special interest groups to ensure curriculum standards are met and information is accurate. Actively participates as a key member of the HCA staff. Active member of the exhibits and community events team. Works with other members of the HCA Division and the Community Resources Department, other Departments, other agencies, museums and community groups to plan, produce exhibits and education programs, and provide training and technical assistance as needed.

The Candidate: The City seeks a candidate with a Bachelor's degree in history or, museum studies, two years experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Expertise in Past Perfect, Photoshop, Adobe, Excel and Publisher required. Two years of relevant museum experience. Experience in collections management, educational program development and/or exhibit planning. Experience with digitizing collections is preferred. Experience with visual arts exhibit is desired.  A background check is required.
